Construction commenced in 1072 and continued in several phases throughout the medieval period. It was the tallest building in the world for 238 years. It is still the third largest Cathedral in Britain.
The Cathedrals incredible history includes events such as Hugh of Wells, Bishop of Lincoln, becoming one of the signatories to Magna Carta and for hundreds of years the cathedral held one of the four remaining copies of the original. This is now securely displayed in Lincoln Castle.
Dating back to the 11th century, this Norman castle was constructed by William the Conqueror, on the site of a pre-existing Roman fortress.
